What is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a disease that damages the eye’s optic nerve. It usually happens when fluid builds up in the front part of the eye. The extra fluid increases the pressure in the eye, damaging the optic nerve. The only treatment for glaucoma and ocular hypertension (OHT) is reduction of Intraocular Pressure (IOP).
The BELKIN Laser DSLT (Direct SLT) enables, with a press of a button, the delivery of a single laser beam with a pulse duration of a few nanoseconds, 120 times, in about a second while the eye remains free of contact. The laser beam is delivered to the limbus, behind which the drainage area of the eye – the trabecular meshwork (TM) - is located, enhancing intraocular fluid drainage, thus lowering the intraocular pressure, which is the main risk factor of glaucoma.
